Juan Obando
Born in 1980 in Bogotá.
Works and lives in United-States and Colombia Estados.
Juan Obando’s work focuses on the critical intervention of social circuits through the orchestration of temporary situations. These experiments are often directed towards the production of video-performances, participatory networks and experimental publications —using social phenomena as raw material and humor as a catalyst for highlighting systemic ironies and contradictions.
Obando is graduated in Industrial Design and Architecture from the Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia, 2005) and holds an MFA from Purdue University (USA, 2010). Among his recent exhibitions are Jeep VIP (solo), Volta Art Fair, New York, NY 2017; Museum Mixtape (solo), Reverse Art Space, Brooklyn, NY; Selections, Bakalar and Paine Galleries, Boston, MA; The Champions (solo), El Parqueadero, Banco de la República, Bogotá 2015; Default Browser (solo), (bis) | oficina de proyectos, Cali 2015 and NADA, Bogotá 2015; A Bird Without a Song (individual), Espacio ArtVersus, Bogotá 2014; Frame & Frequency, Plecto Galería, Medellín 2014; Colombia Hoy, I Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Cartagena de Indias, Cartagena 2014; La Desilusión De La certeza o La Ilusión De La Incertidumbre, Pabellón ArteCámara, ArtBo, Bogotá 2013.
