Henrique Oliveira
Born in 1973 in Ourinhos, Brazil
Lives and works in Sao Paulo, Brazil
Starting as a painter in the 90’s, Henrique Oliveira has, since 2003, developed installations and sculptures with found materials, especially plywood. Working on projects that are site-specific and on architectonic scale, these materials offer him a palette already “painted” by the city, which he uses as a kind of skin in organic constructions. One of his main researches draws parallels between the disorders of the human body and the precarious occupation of cities in developing countries. Relying on the notion of the accumulation of layers, his practices return constantly to painting on canvas, offering a supportive base to exploit the possibilities of painterly and spatial developments, often bringing up art history subjects.
