L’oeil pense – traces and trajectories of Latin American art from the 20th century to today

This series of lectures includes 8 conferences and round tables spanning from november 2015 until June 2016, one monday per month, and was organized with the IESA. It aims at casting a new light on traces and journeys of Latin American art from the 20th century to nowadays. Various artists, curators, art historians, art critics, graphic designers or designer will be invited to present, show and analyze.

Free entry within the limit of the number of places available.

Program 2015 -2016

16.11/2015 – the eye as frontier –  : Wifredo Lam, artist and Jacques Leenhardt from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris)

14.12/2015 – the eye opens: Paris, capital of Latin American arts, with Christine Frérot, Art History PhD , specialized in mexican and latin american modern and contemporary arts.

18.01/2016 – the eye as memory : Missing images from Latin America, artists as historians, with Carolina Ariza, independent curator with a PHD in visual arts from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

15.02/2016 – the eye as a target: Latin-American kinetic artists with Domitille D’Orgeval- Azzi, art historian and director of Piasa’s Modern aArt department.

14.03/2016 – The calligraphic eye : São Paulo & Los Angeles, parallel cultures of written urban signs (after two publications of the author, Pixacão : São Paulo Signature, 2007, and Cholo Writing : Latino Gang Graffiti, 2009), with François Chastenet, architect and typographer, cofounder of TypoMorpho, a  studio of graphic design.

18.04/2016 – The eye as camera: Latin Fire, photographs from the other continent, with Alexis Fabry, curator specialized in  Latin American photography and editor of books related to photography, literature and design(Toluca).

23.05/2016 –  Training one’s eye : A Brasilian galerist’s journey in Paris, with María do Mar Guinle, who created the Mdm Gallery in 2012, first gallery specialized in Brazilian contemporary art in Paris.

13.06/2016 – The circular eye: Round table with young Latin American artists in Paris, with Carolina Ariza, independent curator with a PHD in visual arts from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
