Luciana Lamothe

Born in 1975 in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Lives and works in Buenos Aires

Her work questions the dialectical relations between construction and destruction implied in the same work logic of construction processes.

It recalls the affinities between body and architecture forms and forces to achieve a communion of these two elements and to account the vital violence that relates them.

The ambivalence of materials, in terms of strength and ductility, soft and hard, can be clearly perceived in her works; She uses solid and structural materials that pressured physically become soft and flexible. She forces materials to yield to the maximum of their resistance in order to demonstrate the scope of this transformation.

Lamothe’s interest in establishing relationships between certain materials and people also reveals a concern to consider things and beings alike within a scale of values.

The participatory sculptures of Lamothe mix form and function with the purpose of generating mechanisms that can be activated by the viewer and in which a relationship can be established between both of them.
