Margarita Calle

Lives and works in Pereira, Colombia

In my work as a researcher in the group Art and Culture of the School of Fine Arts and Humanities at the Technological University of Pereira and in my role as director of the Masters in Aesthetic and Creation achieved a deeper understanding of the field of contemporary art, first from approach to local contexts of the city where I live and then from a broader context of Colombia and Latin America. Since September 2010 I published a weekly opinion column on art for a local newspaper called The Late, likewise I have worked regularly for the national newspaper El Tiempo columns critical of the art today. My latest book entitled “Mutations and records. Shifts and convergences of contemporary art in Colombia”, contains a critical look to art in the 90’s in Colombia, through the work of the artist Doris Salcedo, José Alejandro Restrepo, Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Oscar Muñoz and Luis Fernando Pelaez. I now develop a research called “Art as a file, the other as a witness, the artist as witness,” which is funded by the University in which further work and I am concluding my doctoral thesis entitled ” Decentramientos estéticos y prácticas artísticas contemporáneas. La paradoja de las identidades y la negociación cultural” within the PhD program in Humanities at the Universidad del Valle in Colombia. In addition to practicing the exercise of critical writing on art permanently, I teach some master’s degrees in the field of art and culture, especially the Masters in Aesthetic & Creating the Faculty of Fine Arts and Humanities at the Technological University of Pereira , the proposed project and coordinated by me in 2008.
