ARCO – Solo projects: focus latinoamérica
In the edition of 2015, #SoloProjects Focus Latin America revolves around three themes focusing on key ideas and areas of research and artistic production in the current Latin American contemporary art.
The team led by Irene Hofmann and Lucia Sanromán and trained by Miguel A. López, Kiki Mazzucchelli and Emiliano Valdés selected from among all the proposals, those most relevantly investigated on three proposed topics:
– The legacy of Latin American avant
– Rethinking the formalism: abstraction and vernacular sources
– Performativity of gender and research practices in Latin America
Working at the production, exhibition and research currently developed around the legacy of Latin American avant-garde, is especially significant. Artists expand the sources and adapt strategies, formats and styles to lead to a new place. This thematic decision is especially visible in the political tone of artists whose projects evolve in parallel investigations of the historical avant-garde and his willingness to challenge power structures and economic determinism.
