Soledad Pinto

Born in 1978 in Temuco, Chile
Lives and works in Santiago, Chile

My work is concerned with worthless artifacts, rough materials, and texts that accidentally emerge and call my attention due to their loss of functional thingness. Through a wide array of strategies (which include displacing, translating, folding, repeating, and assembling), I create ‘models’ intended to explore the agency that those ‘found objects’ acquire when their trajectories intersect the architecture of ordinary, and unnoticed spaces. In doing so, my works pay significant attention to the number of correspondences and echoes generated between the ‘objects’ and the context (certain oscillation between figure/ground), and to the friction zones between them and us.
