Sergio Gutiérrez
Born in 1982 in Mexico
Lives and works in Oaxaca, Mexico
My work takes daily perceptive events, employing the place where I live as a filter of observation and production. This working place is a physical and temporal reference that frames my environment and allows me to concentrate myself on the sensations, thoughts and images that I assimilate and develop.
The type of perception with which I work at present adjusts itself to light, observing the varying levels of lighting that occur during the day. I remember and observe on a daily basis because I accumulate sensations and experiences that remain in my mind; in this sense I produce images proportional to the intensity with which I select a material and employ a support related to the detonative experience.
The level of relationship that I have with my environment comes from the decision to assimilate and direct my experience through graphic annotations. I principally employ drawing, recognizing in it an extension of thought and in this sense a mediating tool for the environment in which I live and work.
