Paloma Villalobos

Born in 1976 in Chile,
Lives and works in Madrid, Spain.

From a fictional or fantastic space my work thus proposes to stage the concepts of abandonment and survival starting from unfamiliar landscapes that seem to be born after a disastrous event and which also present elements that remain in a state of disability and uselessness, keeping themselves back from death. The scenes created from this abandonment tend to generate new stories that allow the viewer to discover different potential pieces or bodies appearing in the middle of the snow, mud, oil, plants or underwater. Such pieces or bodies come to life only on the basis of their own fragility, and hence can just survive in the world created inside the photograph.

The atmosphere and the effects of such scenes are consequently produced through a realistic staging construction which does not use post-registration manipulation. In this way, such models are articulated, photographed and dismantled and therefore only exist during the moment of their portrayal.
