Maria Raquel Cochez

Using means such as painting, video, photography, objects and installations, Cochez addresses topics related to the body image, subjective beauty canons and eating disorders. She graduated from the Savannah College of Fine Arts in Savannah, Georgia in 2002. She has had numerous collective and individual exhibitions, nationally and internationally. She has participated in the Central American Biennials of 2010 and 2012. Her work has been reviewed in several international publications and has won several awards such as the Emergency Grant of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in New York in 2012, as well as the Foundation Casa Santa Ana of Panama in 2014. She was a finalist for the Grants to Feminist Women in the Arts at the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Inc. in 2014. She was invited as an artist in residence at the KulturKontakt in Vienna, Austria in 2016. Her work is part of the collection of the Ortiz Gurdían Center in Nicaragua. Cochez regularly participates in workshops, conferences, exhibitions and festivals.
