Beatriz Toledo
Born in 1979 in São Paulo
Lives and works in Paris
Beatriz Toledo’s work brings the photographic image to a wider scope and tries to extend the two and three-dimensional boundaries by pushing the limits and possibilities of its appreciation.
In a first glance we see a process of the destruction of an image in its “entirety”, whether physical or symbolic, which ends with a reconfiguration where the image becomes matter.
Her installations / objects play with the idea of space: the performed experiment confuses surface and support and ends up multiplying the possibilities that are juxtaposed, which generates a curveball image kind. Her goal seems to be not only to create an object, but rather an appreciation mechanism of that object. The device is activated while a displacement is made around it and this approach highlights the mutability of the photographic image.
