Loop Fair 2012 | Uncontainable – Curated Section: Latin America

The 10th edition of LOOP fair took place in Hotel Catalonia Ramblas from may 31 to june 2, 2012

The great novelty for this year edition is the Curated Section in LOOP, aimed at offering in the frame of the fair a particular, personal and exclusive exploration of a contemporary subject by the hand of a professional.

This first edition will be curated by brasilian curator and editor Paula Alzugaray, who is making a selection of Latin American artists, pieces and galleries which reflect on the intimate relations between sex/violence/afectivity/criminality in the territory, in order to unravel the particularities of the artistic production while establishing links and abridging distances with professionals from the territory.

Paula Alzugaray is an independent curator, art critic and editor of seLecT magazine,  and Visual Arts at Istoé magazine, Brazil. She is the process of getting a PhD in Communication and Semiotics at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP). Among her curatorial projects stand Video brésilienne: un anti-portrait, a video programme and conference at Vídeo et Après, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, 2011;  Regina Vater: four ecologies, a retrospective of pioneer Brazilian videoartist Regina Vater, to be exhibited at Oi Futuro, Rio de Janeiro, May 2012; Observatories, at Itaú Cultural, Belo Horizonte, 2009; Situ/ação: Video de viagem, at Paço das Artes, São Paulo, 2007; and Videometry: the video as measuring device in Brazilian Contemporary Art, at SCREEN Festival, Barcelona, 2006. As a documentarist, she is the author of Shoot yourself (2012) and Wet Paint (2004), which won the Prize of Best Medium Length Film at 29ª Mostra International de Cinema de São Paulo, 2005.
